Roulette is a staple in the glamorous casino world. Take your seat at the table and place your bets. The thrill of winning or losing everything just by a spin on the wheel has a natural attraction to it. This entertaining game has it all, for instance, it’s fun, it’s mathematically fascinating, and it has that Las Vegas glitz and glamour.

how to win at roulette - game board

The game is simple. A ball is spun around a revolving wheel and eventually lands in one of the 37 (or 38 in American Roulette) numbers. All you have to do to win Roulette, is guess where it will land. Players place bets on the board using chips that represent real money. Different coloured chips have different values. Most importantly, It is best to check the values before placing bets to not bet too much or too little. You can place the following bets in Roulette:

  • Single numbers
  • Any two, three or four adjacent numbers
  • Rows of numbers
  • Columns of numbers
  • Dozens of numbers
  • Odd or even numbers
  • Half of the numbers
  • Red or black

Each different type of bet has a different payout, each with its own odds percentage. The house edge in European Roulette is 2.70%; however, the American Roulette has the house edge of 5.26% due to there being an extra number.

Roulette is a game that doesn’t require a lot of skill to win big. As a result, you can have a decent chance of success with little practice, and it’s an incredibly straightforward game to play.

Even although Roulette is a game of chance, there are a few strategies some players like to use to try and hit it big. We will look at the ‘Martingale Betting System’ and the ‘Fibonacci strategy’.

The Martingale System is one of the oldest betting systems around. It is a system that statistically makes you more likely to win Roulette short term. Therefore, this system is one of the best-known progressive Roulette strategies.

An example of how it works is:

  • You place a bet of £10 on red.
  • You win, so you bet £10 on red again.
  • Then you lose, so you bet £20 on red. You lose again, so you bet £40 on red.
  • You lose, so you bet £80 on red.
  • The wheel spins in your favour – you win, and you’re also ahead £20.

Each time you win a Roulette bet, the sequence resets. So if you keep winning with £10, the bet stays at that level.

There are, of course, issues with this strategy. One such issue is that if you do not have a large enough bankroll, you could find yourself out of money and unable to double your bet to recoup your losses. Moreover, many Roulette tables have a max bet size, so this does not always work.

The famous roulette strategy is named after the 13th-century Italian mathematician Leonardo Pisano, who also went by the name Fibonacci.

Negative progression systems require you to increase your bet following a losing spin. Similar to the martingale betting methods format, the Fibonacci strategy differs in a few subtle ways.

In maths, the Fibonacci sequence is a series of numbers where the following number along is equal to the sum of the previous two. The sequence can carry on infinitely.

For example, assuming we start at zero, the Fibonacci sequence would run like this:

0, 1, 1 (0+1), 2 (1+1), 3 (2+1) , 5 (3+2), 8 (5+3), 13 (8+5), 21 (13+8), 34 (21+13)…

We select only even-money bets like red/black or odd/even using the Fibonacci sequence in Roulette. As a negative progression system, Fibonacci gamblers must increase their wager every time they lose. In this staking plan, the gambler moves from their current stake to the next stake in the Fibonacci sequence.

On the other hand, unlike the Martingale, where the stake is completely reset, the Fibonacci moves the stake down a couple of levels, giving you a chance to make up your losses a lot quicker.

Try to play on a single-zero wheel – as said previously in this article, this is due to the house edge being lower in Roulette’s European version. (2.70%)

Stick to your bankroll! – Set aside some money for fun and stick to your limits when playing. It is very easy to assume this next bet will win back all of your losses. Don’t chase your losses!

Variations of classic Roulette – Online casinos now have many variations of Roulette that you can play. If you aren’t having any luck with classic Roulette, why not give these new games a spin!

Sir Philip Green, the billionaire fashion mogul who owns Evans, Burton, Miss Selfridge and more, won a massive £2 million in 2004. Also, before the year ended, he won another £1 million playing Roulette!

In addition, a player decided to bet it all in one spin at the Roulette table back in 2004. Ashley Revell travelled from the UK to Las Vegas and placed his entire life savings on red, and he hit it big, winning $135,000!

Mike Ashley, the Sports Direct tycoon, made his fortune even bigger by winning £820,000 in 2008 by covering every bet that included the number 17.

Some roulette strategies come close to working 100% of the scenarios. However, the house always has that slight edge. The casinos and their games are designed not to lose money, even though players keep winning.

Now its time to put your knowledge to the test! Check out the best blackjack and live casinos in the UK.
